18 Days

halloween decorations

Can you believe there are only eighteen days left till Halloween? I can’t. I’m trying to lull myself out of a how-is-it-already-October shock by decorating for the holiday. I didn’t want to buy a bunch of decorations we’d have to store all year, so instead, we went to the market and picked up a bunch of beautiful fall squash. I love how festive they are, but I really love knowing that when we’re sick of looking at them, we can eat them.

We also spent six bucks on some warty little gourds. When we’re done using them for Halloween decorations we’ll either try to find a recipe for them, or turn them into tea-light candle holders for Thanksgiving. Not sure which yet.

I’m particularly proud of my centerpiece for the coffee table. A little bit of spooky tucked in here and there. I have a box of old Halloween decorations I’ve yet to go through, but I’m excited to get them out and see what’s worth displaying. What about you? Are you going to dress up this year? Are you decorating or carving pumpkins?

  • ‘Cita

Speaking of ‘Spooky,’ where is he?

  • Will you hate me if I say I’m not that into Halloween?   I mean, I love me some AUTUMN, but I’m not crazy about the creepy, gross, scary aspect of Halloween.  And I can never think of a costume.  And meh.

I do like giving candy to cute little kids…but not teenagers in Scream masks.

    • I HATE YOU.

Puh-leeze. I love you. Honestly, I’m a little creeped out by Halloween myself. But I am certainly enjoying all the squash and gourds I’ve sprinkled around the apartment, and the little Halloween candles, and it was fun to incorporate my collection of skulls and bones into some themed holiday decorating. I went to Michael’s and bought some autumn leaves and will post more pictures soon. And ohmygoodness I am SO excited to decorate for Christmas!

I don’t usually dress up either – it’s been years since I’ve had the energy to put together a decent costume. It’s also been years since I lived anywhere where anyone knocked on my door for candy, so I’m not even planning on giving any out this year. And I agree, teenagers in Scream masks suck.

      • I LOVE squash and gourds.  I typically go all out with the squash/gourd/straw decorations, but this year I think I’m going to focus more on getting the rest of the living room/dining room cleaned up and unpacked.  To make room for CHRISTMAS AND CHANUKKAH!  Also, for wedding-related projects.  So many of those!

I think we’ll actually have kids knock on our door this year, since we live in a neighborhood with a lot of families, but we usually go to Alameda, where there are HUNDREDS (no joke) of children.
