Love = Him

Homemade Sushi

Last Friday he made us sushi for dinner. As in made. With his hands. And all fresh ingredients. And it was awesome.

This Saturday we celebrate our five-year wedding anniversary. Five years! (I have to find something made of wood to give him.)

I love you, Michael. You’re all of my everything.

  • You have to give him wood?

    I am a 14 year old boy.

Also, sushi!! I got Will a “make your own sushi” set for Chanukkah last year (omg jk, it was two years ago) and it’s still all in the box. Does Mike have any tips and/or tricks he’d like to share? We can get pretty good fish from Whole Foods and/or the Farmer’s market, but we have been too intimidated I think. We went over to a friend’s place a couple of years ago for homemade sushi, and it was awesome! Yours looks super-pro too!

    • “You have to give him wood?”

Got a potty mind to go with the plumbing, I see.

      • OMG you guys. Wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary. Geez-o-pete.

      Hi Kim!
My advice is to go for it.
I used raw veggies only for this first attempt, but fish would be fine. I got good sushi vinegar at the asian market, and a $5 sushi mat from Crate and Barrel.
      A couple tips:
Use smashed grains of rice to “glue” the roll shut.
Use a sharp, WET knife to cut the roll.
Have fun – it’s not brain surgery, and I presume that practice makes perfect.
      Good luck, Michael.

      • Thanks, Michael! We actually have the mats already (I bought Will a sushi
kit a few years ago), and rice and vinegar and all that too…though I
suspect they might not be good anymore after sitting for two years or so 🙂

Hopefully we’ll make our own sushi soon and I can tell you guys how it
        went!
